MATT Smith has joined QPR on a season-long loan from Premier League champions Manchester City.
Smith has been with the Sky Blues for five years.
The 19-year-old initially progressed within West Brom’s youth system before joining City in 2013.
Last season was regarded as a breakthrough campaign for him after he spent a successful year on loan at FC Twente in the Eerste Divisie, the Dutch second tier.
Smith started 34 of their 38 league games, scoring twice, as they won the title by 11 points to achieve promotion to the Eredivisie.
On the international stage, Smith made his debut for Wales in their 4-1 Nations League win over Ireland last September.
He has since featured in all three of his country’s Euro 2020 qualifiers this year, starting two of them.
The highly-rated midfielder – who can play in a defensive, holding role as well as in a more advanced position – signed a new long-term deal at the Etihad just three months ago, committing his future to City until 2023.
This season he will be hoping to add to his growing reputation with a year in the Championship with Mark Warburton’s QPR.
