IT was an impressive start for our International R’s in action on Wednesday.
Ilias Chair celebrated a goal and a win as he helped Morocco fire five past Guinea-Bissau, leapfrogging their opponents at the top of their World Cup qualifying group in the process.
First-half strikes from Achraf Hakimi and Imran Louza had the hosts in control, before Chair stole the show with a sublime third moments after the interval – the R’s ace picking out the top corner from 20 yards for his second goal in his country’s colours.
Further efforts from Ayoub El Khabi and Munir El Haddadi set the seal on a 5-0 victory.
Elsewhere in Morocco, earlier in the day there was also a noteworthy performance from Osman Kakay in Sierra Leone’s 1-1 draw with South Sudan.
The R's defender provided the assist for Sullay Kaikai’s 40th-minute opener but Kakay and co were denied victory late on by Emmanuel Loki’s stoppage-time equaliser.
On Tuesday, Dillon de Silva was also on target for his nation. The Under-23s attacker netted a 94th-minute penalty for Sri Lanka in their 3-2 defeat to Nepal in the SAFF Championship.
