QPR defender Jordy de Wijs praised a ‘ruthless’ team display following the 2-0 weekend win at Stoke City.
Goals from Charlie Austin (17 minutes) and Ossie Kakay (70) saw the R’s run out deserved winners at the bet365 Stadium.
“It was a very solid performance away from home – from front to back we were really ruthless,” de Wijs told www.qpr.co.uk.
“We took and chances in the final third and we were solid at the back.
“It’s always going to be a hard game away at Stoke. They aren’t too far away from us in the table. But all credit to the lads for their energy and effort in the game.
“When we are on it, we are really hard to beat. We’re very pleased with the clean sheet.”
With one fixture left to contest, at home to Luton Town on Saturday, Rangers could finish the Sky Bet Championship season as high as eighth. The R’s ended up in 13th spot last term and an improvement defensively has undoubtedly contributed to that.
Jordy joined on loan from Hull City in January and was pleased to help QPR to another shutout at Stoke.
“I’m happy that I’m getting regular game time now," he said.
“At the start, I struggled with some niggling injuries. But I got 90 minutes once again on Saturday as part of a really pleasing team performance.
“Hopefully I can finish strongly with another 90 minutes this weekend.”
de Wijs is currently featuring in a back five alongside fellow central defenders Rob Dickie and Yoann Barbet.
He added: “The work on the training ground is going well and we all have a good connection with each other as well.
“Both players have a lot of quality on the ball, which makes life easier.”
Another defensive ace, academy product Ossie Kakay, scored his first-ever league goal for the R’s at Stoke.
“We were all really pleased for him,” Jordy continued. "He’s working hard and he’s done well recently.
“He fully deserved his goal and it was good for the team that it secured the win as well.”
