QPR youngster Osman Kakay has signed a new contract at Loftus Road.
The 19-year-old has agreed a one-year extension until the summer of 2018.
Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Kakay – who joined the club at the tender age of six – expressed his delight at committing his future to the R's.
“I am really pleased,” he said. It is great that I can sign the new deal now, and really focus on pushing on.
“I feel like I am in a good place at the club, and I just want to work as hard as I can.
“It’s certainly not a case of being able to relax now that I have signed a new contract; it’s a case of pushing on and doing everything I can to break into that First Team and playing as much as possible.”
Twelve years on from joining QPR, Kakay has enjoyed a breakthrough season in W12.
Having featured throughout pre-season, he has since started two EFL Cup ties, as well as regularly being named in First Team matchday squads.
He added: “The past few months have been great.
“Being in and around the First Team, training with them every day, has been brilliant.
“It has really helped me to improve the physical and technical side of my game, and I feel like I am becoming a better player for it.”
Fellow teenagers Niko Hamalainen and Olamide Shodipo have also made the step up from the R’s Academy and Kakay revealed the trio are relishing their involvement so far this season, adding: “We have all been talking about it, and we feel this year has been really good for us.
“We know there is an opportunity for us here to play for the First Team and we’ve said that it’s important we don’t take that chance for granted. Every day is a new day to work hard, and that’s what we all want to do.”
Kakay also expressed his thanks to the Rangers fans for making him feel at home in his breakthrough season, adding: “It gives you a lot of confidence to know the fans are behind you.
“You can tell the fans really like to see the younger players involved, and that really helps you to perform.”
