IN what was the penultimate round of league fixtures for many of our loan Rangers, it was shot stopper Liam Kelly and his Motherwell side that caught the headlines as they continue their push up the Scottish Premiership.
A fine 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock on Saturday, a win which included another superb display from the R’s loanee saw ‘the Well’ clinch their third consecutive league victory since the league split last month.
Devante Cole and Stephen O’Donnell got the goals, but a great performance from Kelly in between the sticks saw the 25-year-old being on hand to deny former Norwich City man Kyle Lafferty on numerous occasions, ensuring that Kelly was able to hold on to yet another clean sheet.
Elsewhere Themis Kefalas in the National League featured heavily for his Barnet side. A disappointing defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday, was quickly forgotten about after the Bee’s sealed a Bank Holiday Monday victory over Weymouth.
A 2-0 win ensured that Kefalas’ side completed the league double over Weymouth, with the young centre half once again starring for the full 90 minutes.
However, the rest of our loanee’s struggled for minutes this week, with Paul Smyth and Mide Shodipo both being unused substitutes.
Smyth’s Accrington Stanley drew 1-1 with Charlton Athletic, with the Irish winger remaining on the bench.
Whilst, Shodipo’s Oxford United clinched a 3-2 away victory over Shrewsbury Town but like Smyth the 23-year-old didn’t feature.
In addition to this Aramide Oteh also didn’t feature in Colchester United’s 1-0 victory over Salford City.
Lastly, Dillion Barnes (Burton Albion) and Conor Masterson (Swindon Town) have returned to us for rehab for their respective injuries.
