Loan Rangers: A quiet week for the loan R’s

OWING predominantly to the international break, it was a relatively quiet week for several members of the Loan Rangers – but once again it was winger Mide Shodipo who caught the headlines.

After notching his 11th strike of the season last week, a disappointing 1-0 away defeat to Northampton Town on Tuesday was thankfully followed up with a 2-1 victory over Lincoln City on Friday night.

The 23-year-old featured for 81 minutes in that win – playing a role in both the U’s goals.

Unfortunately, for our only other League One loanee to feature last week, Northern Irishman Paul Smyth and his Accrington Stanley side faced a miserable defeat to Peterborough United.

A 7-0 thrashing ensured it was a day to firmly forget for Smyth and Stanley.

Elsewhere, Dillion Barnes (Burton Albion) and Conor Masterson (Swindon Town) have returned to us for rehab for their respective injuries.

In League Two, Aramide Oteh was an unused substitute in Colchester United’s midweek 2-2 draw with Tranmere Rovers. The striker also didn’t feature at all in their 2-1 home defeat to Bradford City on Saturday.

In the National League, Themis Kefalas was the only R’s loanee to feature. The young defender played the full 90 minutes in Barnet’s 3-1 away defeat to Yeovil Town.

Shot-stopper Liam Kelly’s Motherwell side weren’t in action this week, the SPL paused owing to the current international break.
