Luongo eyeing Swindon visit tonight

MASSIMO Luongo is looking forward to facing his former team this evening when Swindon Town visit Loftus Road.

The R’s host the Robins in the first round of the EFL Cup in W12 following Sunday’s 3-0 Championship win against Leeds United.

It will be the first time that the Australian international has faced his old employers since moving to W12 in 2015.

And the midfielder is hoping his current side can build on Sunday’s opening day league triumph by progressing in the cup.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Luongo told www.qpr.co.uk. “It is a different team from the one I remember but it is always nice to play your old team.

“The fans will hopefully give me a warm welcome, I really enjoyed my time there.

“It’s another chance for us to put into practice what we are learning and if we can have a bit of a cup run then even better. Winning games breads confidence so we are looking to win.”

Luongo was in inspired form for Sunday’s triumph against Leeds at Loftus Road.

The midfielder made a number of excellent tackles to return possession back to QPR and finished runner-up to Tjaronn Chery in the Man of the Match vote.

That added to an overall well organised display from the team that Luongo hopes Rangers can continue to find this season.

“Ever since the manager has come in he’s wanted to eliminate the sloppiness from our game and to create a platform based on clean sheets and being organised,” he said.

“From there we can work on shape but out of possession we want to be tight at the back and not create problems for ourselves.

“When the manager came in last year I had a spell where I wasn't playing and he told me back then that I have to get the other side of the game better.

“He still gets the message across to me, if I get a nosebleed he will tell me well done but he tells me to pick my times and its working for me.”
