A MAN of the match display from Massimo Luongo helped Australia secured a 0-0 draw against Honduras in the FIFA 2018 World cUp play-off match on Friday evening.
The QPR midfielder was a colossus for the Socceroos as they earned a draw against the South Americans.
Luongo, who played the full 90 minutes for Ange Postecoglou’s side at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano, was the driving force behind Australia’s attacking threat.
The R’s man forced a save in the 11th minute before Australia appeared to be handed a penalty after 20 minutes.
Bailey Wright was initially adjudged to have been fouled in the area after 20 minutes before a consultation between referee Daniele Orsato and his assistant saw the decision overturned.
QPR’s Luongo then fired wide of the target after half-time as he picked up where he left off.
But despite his best efforts, as he twice created good opportunities for the Aussies, they were forced to settle for a draw ahead of the second leg in Sydney on Wednesday.
The winner at the Allianz Stadium will progress to the World Cup Finals in Russia this summer.
