Manning suffers Ireland U21s Norway defeat

RYAN Manning saw his Republic of Ireland sides unbeaten start to their UEFA 2019 European Under-21 qualification end on Tuesday evening.

The QPR midfielder played 86 minutes of Ireland Under-21s 2-1 defeat against Norway.

An injury time winner from Norwegian captain Iver Fossum handed the hosts all three points at the Marienlyst Stadium, Drammen.

Victory for Norway came after Real Madrid youngster Martin Ødegaard handed them the lead after 19 minutes.

However, a stunning equaliser from former R’s youngster Jake Mulraney midway through the first half appeared to have earned Manning’s team a point until Fossum’s 91st minute winner.

Defeat sees Ireland second in Group 5 at the midway point of qualification as they bid to make the finals in Italy and San Marino.

Rangers striker Reece Grego-Cox missed the trip after picking up a knock in QPR Under-23s defeat against Colchester United on Friday afternoon.
