CONOR Masterson and Republic of Ireland U21s saw their unbeaten start to European Championship qualifying come to an end on Tuesday evening, as they fell to defeat in Iceland.
The R’s centre-back played 90 minutes in the Group 1 clash, which was decided by a solitary goal from Sveinn Aron Gudjohnsen. The goal came via a 28th minute penalty.
Masterson’s Ireland had been unbeaten in their first four qualifying games and he also played 90 minutes on Thursday evening as they earned a 0-0 draw against Italy, also in European Championship qualifying.
Jan Mlakar scored the only goal of the game in Slovenia U21s’ 1-0 friendly victory over Hungary U21s on Tuesday night.
Mlakar was also in action on Friday night, playing 90 minutes in Slovenia U21s’ 2-2 friendly draw with England. Slovenia netted a 94th minute equaliser in Maribor.
Nahki Wells was on target for Bermuda in their opening CONCACAF Nations League match against Mexico on Friday night. Mexico ran out 5-1 winners in the Group A2 clash.
Matt Smith was not involved in Wales’ EURO 2020 qualifiers against Slovakia and Croatia over the weekend. Both games finished as 1-1 draws.
