Smyth and Northern Ireland stay top of Group C

PAUL Smyth’s Northern Ireland continued their perfect start to Euro 2020 qualification on Tuesday night by beating Belarus 1-0 in Borisov.

The tightly-contested game looked destined for a draw until Paddy McNair fired home the winner from a tight angle with four minutes remaining.

The result leaves the Green And White Army top of Group C, with a maximum 12 points collected from their four games thus four.

Germany – who thrashed Estonia 8-0 on Tuesday – sit second with nine points from their three games.

Smyth did not feature in Tuesday’s match and he will now enjoy a short break before returning to QPR for pre-season training.
