QPR have been proud to work with Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank throughout the 2019/20 season, with over £2,500 being raised as well as huge amounts of food being donated by R’s supporters on home match days.
During this current COVID-19 pandemic, foodbanks up and down the country are in need of help more than ever, with demand on them being at an all-time high.
Our local foodbank, Hammersmith & Fulham, has been hit heavily by this pandemic, with the number of people requiring food from the Foodbank drastically increasing as a result of the Coronavirus. In fact, numbers of people receiving food has increased from a weekly average of 225 people to well over 700 people each week.
The Foodbank has also seen a dramatic decline in food donations, as people are unable to get out to do their weekly shop. This has impacted on the amount of donations received, meaning any help now is as vital as ever.
With the help of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, they have moved into the main hall of the Olympia Exhibition Centre and are using this large space to enable volunteers to pack at least 100 food parcels per day and this number is only expected to rise. These parcels are being delivered to those in need to help them stay safe and stay home.
Whilst the new distribution centre and volunteer help is being provided free of charge, they are having to spend up to £10,000 per week to purchase tins and other long-life food items. Buying these extra supplies ensures that each food box contains the full range of food a family needs to last them for more than three days.
As a result, Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank have set up a CrowdFunding page, which will hopefully raise enough money to ensure that they can continue to provide food to every resident in Hammersmith & Fulham who needs their help.
Any donations you can give will make a huge impact on many people’s lives during this hard time.
