Hoops host coaching clinics in Asia

COACHES from QPR in the Community Trust recently returned from Asia following their latest bid to unearth a future star of the beautiful game.

The fourth instalment of the AirAsia QPR Coaching Clinics took place over a two-week period in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and China, as part of the club’s on-going collaboration with AirAsia.
Boys and girls aged 14-16 were given the opportunity to participate, with the clinics taking place in a variety of schools and football clubs across four destinations in all.
At the end of every session, coaches picked their players of the day, with the overall ‘achievers’ winning the chance to come to London and enjoy a cultural and football experience.
“AirAsia is a great partner, and we’re so glad we were able to work with them again this year,” Trust CEO Andy Evans told www.qpr.co.uk.
“We have discovered so many youngsters with a fantastic passion for football. We had the arduous task of selecting the most talented in each stop to bring them back to QPR next year to give them a taste of what life is like at our Academy.
“It’s a great privilege to be able to give them that opportunity, and we’re sure they’re looking forward to it just as much as we are.”
After kicking-off in Penang (Malaysia), the tour spanned Bandung (Indonesia) and Bangkok (Thailand) before concluding with a fourth and final programme in Shenzhen (China), where Chinese QPR fan group Every Ranger even made the 13-hour journey to cheer the hopefuls on.
Throughout the whistle-stop tour, the Trust’s coaches delivered a wide-range of different sessions, with the aim of developing each participant’s individual and team game.
14-year-old Li Te was chosen from the final camp in China, and he can’t wait to join the rest of the winners when they jet off for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to London in the New Year.
“I had so much fun training and I feel very excited to be able to train in London with QPR,” he said. “I feel like I’m a step closer to my dream!”
Congratulations to all the winners – we look forward to welcoming them to QPR in 2017!
