Rainbow Rangers set for Loftus Road launch

SATURDAY will see the launch of QPR’s first LGBT supporters group ‘Rainbow Rangers’.

The group – created to welcome fellow R’s from the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community and allies – will take centre stage at Loftus Road before kick-off against Aston Villa.

This weekend's launch follows last month’s announcement of the group’s formation, which was warmly received by the Rangers faithful, LGBT community and beyond.

“It’s really heartening that QPR have put everything behind Rainbow Rangers,” Di Cunningham, Chair of Pride in Football – an alliance of LGBT fan groups – told www.qpr.co.uk.

“It’s brilliant the club are offering so much support. It shows a real commitment to engaging with the LGBT community, bringing new people to the stands at Loftus Road and making sure that all fans feel safe and welcome.

“QPR are blazing a trail by supporting Rainbow Rangers and it’s a fantastic message to be spreading all around the world.”

Saturday promises to be a special occasion for all concerned, not least for lifelong R’s fan and group leader Emma Miller-McCaffrey.

“The response has been amazing,” she said. “We now have 18 members of the LGBT group including allies which is just fantastic.

“It’s been great to hear from fans who have been coming to QPR for decades, who now know they’re not the only one, and we can all come together.

“To stand on the pitch on Saturday and know that me as an openly gay woman is being included by that part of my life that has been there since I was born will be overwhelming.

“It’s going to be a very emotional day.”
