QPR In the Community Trust hosted their 'Utilita Kids Cup' on Friday 24th January 2020.
Throughout the season, local schools have competed in borough qualifiers to reach the QPR finals at PlayFootball, Shepherd's Bush.
The winner of last week's QPR Finals will go onto represent QPR at the Championship South Regional finals in Bristol. This tournament gave the players a chance to showcase their skills in front of QPR coaches and Trust Ambassador Andy Sinton.
After a competitive group stage and exhilarating latter stages, the final was contested by Sinai Jewish Primary School and St Stephen's CE Primary School. The game kept all spectators on edge with St Stephen's taking an early three-goal lead.
Hard work and cooperation of Sinai levelled the game 3-3 with seconds to play. Evenly poised heading into extra time, Sinai got themselves in front for the first time. With time ticking and tension rising, some great individual skill brought St Stephen's level. The momentum continued with St Stephen's scoring again, which secured their chance to represent the R's in March at the Championship South Regional finals.
Speaking to www.qpr.co.uk, QPR in the Community Trust’s School’s Sports Coordinator Gavin Forbes said: “Congratulations to St Stephen’s CE Primary School, who have won the chance to represent us. This tournament is an EFL initiative to get Under 11s up and down the country playing football. We held qualifiers for the individual boroughs earlier in the season and this is an accumulation of that. Despite what’s at stake, it’s been great and played in the right spirit and has given all the children a chance to showcase their skills.”
Trust Ambassador Andy Sinton, who was on hand to present the winners with their trophy, stated: “It was great to be there. The standard of the games was really good and the winners were truly worthy. Good luck to St Stephen’s when they travel to Bristol in the next round.
The Utilita Kids Cup
Each season, the English Football League organises two cup competitions for junior footballers from schools across the country, with the finals being played in the build-up to some of the biggest matches of the domestic season.
The Utilita Kids Cup is one of those competitions with the winners of the club competition representing the club in the Championship South Regional finals. The winners of the regional finals will go through to the Grand Final at Wembley. A school representing QPR won in 2018.
The Championship Southern Regional finals are organised by the EFL and will be hosted in Bristol, with the date confirmed for March 2020.
