QPR are urging supporters to get behind ‘The Big H&F Community Christmas Lunch’ – a joint venture between United in Hammersmith & Fulham and Hammersmith & Fulham Council to deliver Christmas lunches to the lonely and isolated.
Hundreds of local older people can’t enjoy H&F Council’s Christmas Day gathering for the second year in a row because of the pandemic. Too many members of our community will spend the day at home alone. It may be unsafe for them to see family or friends. They may be devastated by the loss of loved ones.
The aim is for 700 lonely or isolated people to have more cheer at Christmas by delivering safely-cooked Christmas lunches and gift bags by Christmas Day, so isolated local older people feel less alone.
Local social enterprise Smile Brigade are preparing the lunches. It’s a big job, so they’re already putting a team of enthusiastic helpers together. The team will cook and organise the Christmas meals so they can be delivered. Preparations have already started and will keep going until late afternoon on Christmas Day.
This is a huge operation and we’re calling on the local community for support. Please give what you can so we can make it happen.
Each donation makes a difference on Christmas Day
£28,000 is needed in total, with £14,000 crowdfunded publicly. This initiative relies on the generosity of individuals, businesses and foundations.
£200: Could bring joy to five older neighbours who are living alone. They’ll receive full lunch and gift packages. A friendly face will deliver them for December 25th – in rain, snow or shine
£40: Could pay for one isolated neighbour’s full Christmas package. This includes a delicious meal with dessert, and a gift bag full of goodies, delivered straight to their door
£15: Could pay for a quality hot Christmas lunch. It will be cooked by a professional community chef, with locally-sourced ingredients
