WE analyse Reading’s difficult 2018/19 season to date ahead of the Royals visit to W12 on Saturday.
Best Day Out: Reading 3-0 Hull City - 22nd September 2018
A rare convincing victory for Reading came over Hull City back in September. Sam Baldock reacted fastest to put the hosts in front before Jon Dadi Bodvarsson tapped home to make it 2-0 in the second half. Andy Yiadom's first Reading goal made the points safe with nine minutes left.
One To Forget: Reading 0-1 Bolton - 18th August 2018
Reading’s poor start to the campaign continued with a 1-0 defeat against Bolton. Yanic Wildshut’s first-half effort condemned the Royals to three straight losses with Bolton yet to pick up an away victory since.
Top League Goalscorer: Jon Dadi Bodvarsson - The Icelandic international has seven goals to his name this term. However, he hasn’t found the net since September.
Number of clean-sheets: 3
Points picked up at home: 11 - Only Ipswich have picked up fewer home points.
Points picked up on the road: 8 - Seven fewer than QPR.
Key Player: Yakou Meite - A strong attack-minded player who can play in a number of positions, the PSG youth product has six goals and one assist to his name this campaign.
Emerging young talent: Danny Loader - The 18-year-old is just beginning to break into the first team and looks a real attacking prospect. He scored four goals against QPR in a pre-season friendly last year.
Previous Result: Millwall 1-0 Reading
Millwall climbed above Reading and out of the Championship relegation zone as Jose Gomes' first game as Royals boss saw his side end a narrow defeat with nine men.
However there were positives to take for the new gaffer and despite playing most of the match with a man less, they could have easily come away with a draw.
Last time out against the R’s: Reading 0-1 QPR - 20th October 2018
QPR secured all three points at Reading courtesy of skipper Toni Leistner’s 64th-minute strike. The German defender slotted the ball home following a goalmouth scramble and that proved to be the difference between the sides in a game which the visitors had largely dominated until the goal.
