QPR Ladies boss Martino Chevannes is hoping last Sunday’s maiden win of the season in the FAWPL Plate inspires his side to improve their league fortunes over the coming weeks.
Rangers have lost all seven of their league fixtures so far this term, but clinched a place in the next round of the Plate with a morale-boosting 4-2 win against Lowestoft Town last weekend.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s home fixture against Portsmouth, Chevannes told www.qpr.co.uk: We need to give 100 per-cent against Pompey and carry over last weekend’s display to take steps to salvaging our FAWPL status for another season.
“It’s obviously nice for a run in the Plate, but in our position we can’t lose sight of the league, which is our priority.
“The Plate can give us a chance to try new things, new players and the freedom to experiment, but our bread and butter is the league and that’s where our focus is.”
Looking back on the victory against Lowestoft, which arrived courtesy of goals from Sara Lopez, Jess Treharne and Juliette Denny (2), Chevannes added: “It was great to get a few goals, especially with the amount of chances we created.
“The girls got a real confidence boost and everyone showed determination and spirit that was lacking a few weeks ago.”
The Ladies entertain Portsmouth at Honeycroft on Sunday afternoon – kick-off 2.00pm.
