QPR LADIES recorded their first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, beating Lowestoft Town 4-2 to progress into the next round of the FAWPL Plate.
Goals from Sara Lopez, Jess Treharne and a brace from stand-in striker Juliette Denny handed the visitors a deserved victory.
Hosts Lowestoft, who play in South East Division One, created a couple of early chances, but it was Rangers who had the ball in the back of the net on eight minutes, only for midfielder Hayley Sloan’s effort to be ruled out for offside.
Undeterred, QPR dominated proceedings thereafter, with notable efforts from Denny and Lopez; the latter seeing her effort on the half hour mark expertly cleared off the line by Abbie Everson.
Attempts continued to flow for the R’s, with Denny again having a one-on-one effort saved by Eilish Brogan in the Lowestoft goal, before Jean Sseninde tried her luck from range.
The deserved breakthrough eventually arrived on the stroke of half-time when Sloan’s through ball found Denny and she calmly slotted past Brogan.
The QPR onslaught continued in the second period, and the second goal followed soon after, with Treharne scoring her first for the club with a long-range free-kick.
Lowestoft, to their credit, refused to lie down, but a series of good blocks from Micaela Lopes and Sseninde kept the hosts at bay.
But it was Rangers who made it three soon after, with Lopez finally getting her name on the scoresheet when she slotted home a cross from Denny.
Lowestoft pulled a goal back with three minutes remaining, when Gemma Moore converted from the spot, and there was yet more drama moments later when the advancing Millie Cursons made it 3-2 in stoppage-time!
Rangers weren’t to be denied though, with the ever-dangerous Denny making it 4-2 to confirm Plate progression for Martino Chevannes’ side.
