R’s stars attend summer training camp

THROUGHOUT the summer break, we were delighted to host a unique summer training camp for players in our Advanced Development Programme.

And, as part of the programme, special guest appearances from QPR players Conor Masterson, Joe Gubbins and Ody Alfa looked to inspire the next generation of players.

Unique to our regular Soccer Schools, which have also been running throughout the summer holidays, the programme is an invitation-only event - for players aged seven to 16 - and currently sits as the third step on our academy pathway. It provides a platform for the players to develop and progress within our ranks.

The visits of the lads were some of the first in person since before the pandemic and their appearance put many smiles on faces, with such support only serving to inspire the next generation of players at the football club.

Alfie Ferguson, programme lead, told www.qpr.co.uk: “It’s great to have face-to-face player visits back.

“The club were extremely supportive during lockdown and arranged plenty of opportunities for our players to engage with the squad virtually, but we are extremely grateful to have the lads here in person”.

He added: “Conor, Joe and Ody have all had unique journeys in football to date, so to have them on hand to share their experiences with our players is invaluable.

“The players within our programme are all aiming to progress through the ranks here at QPR and one day play academy football. Speaking to players like Ody, who was playing grassroots football until the age of 14, gives them hope that their opportunity is still to come.”
