MANAGER Steve Quashie has named defender Hayley Peacock as captain of QPR FC Women for the season.
After making his decision both Quashie and Peacock spoke to www.qpr.co.uk with the manager first to comment: “Hayley is an experienced player with very good people skills. She is a leader for different types of reasons and is very good at giving players confidence and inspiration. As well as this, she is amazing at sharing her life stories with them. She is a very likeable person and will help the players grow and develop this season.”
In addition to this, Peacock was also proud to share the news. She said: “This is my fourth season here and I absolutely love the club. The girls are amazing and I really believe in the manager, so I was honoured and touched to be announced captain. I want to do the team really proud this year and hopefully we will continue on a good winning streak for a long time.”
Reflecting on Sunday’s performance against Oakwood, the defender was quick to praise her side. She added: “It was a good win, we played well in the first half and killed the game off. Sunday was all about progressing into the third [qualifying] round and hopefully making it into the first-round proper, so this is just a step in a journey that we want to take. Credit to Oakwood, they made it difficult in the second half but we adapted and scored lots of nice goals and produced a good team performance.”
Attention now switches to Aylesford next week and Peacock knows it’s going to be a challenge. She said: “Aylesford away is going to be another tough one. It is going to be tough coming from a comfortable game to going back into a league match, so preparation in training is going to be vitally important and hopefully we can continue the streak.”
