Match Report: QPR FC Women’s 6, Denham United Ladies 1

QPR FC Women’s booked their place in the semi-finals of the Capital Women’s County Cup, with an emphatic 6-1 victory over local rivals Denham United this weekend.

An early Jenny Moore double and then strikes from Ellie Searle, Katie Akerman, Milly Cutler and Demi Edwards respectively, ensured Rangers returned to action in style after almost four months away.

The R’s who haven’t played a competitive match since December, started brightly with Mollie Dench quickly threatening the Denham backline.

And with only six minutes on the clock, Steve Quashie’s side were ahead.

Moore was able to beat her marker and unleash a wonderful strike into the top corner, giving the visitors the lead.

After the early goal, Rangers continued to push forward and as we approached the 25th minute, Moore was on hand to double hers and QPR’s tally for the afternoon.

An equally as fine strike from the midfielder had given Rangers the perfect start.

This goal only encouraged the visitors and Searle was able to seal an amazing half an hour of football for the Super Hoops, with a smart turn and finish.

However, with the half time whistle looming it wasn’t all one-way traffic and Denham were able to carve out some dangerous opportunities.

Initially R’s stopper Lucie White was on hand to deny the hosts, but Dadrian Kennedy was able to tap home making it 3-1 at the break.

With the second half well underway, forward Cutler’s arrival added some energy to R’s frontline and it was her hard work and determination which was ultimately rewarded.

Some good pressing from the Rangers forward eventually saw the ball falling to midfielder Akerman who with a fine strike seemingly sealing the victory for Quashie’s side.

Cutler was then quickly able to finish off a fine team move, making it 5 for Rangers.

Before, Edwards was able to wrap up the perfect afternoon with a fine strike late on and see’s Quashie’s side progress to the semi-finals of the County Cup.

The R’s now travel to Dulwich Hamlet next Sunday, as they prepare for the start of the Round Robin League Tournament.

QPR Starting XI: White, Johnson (Carolan 65’), Dench, Peacock (Hall 56’), Grieve, Redhead-Ling, Petit (Edwards 45’), Moore, Davies (Cutler 56’), Akerman (Dickens 69’), Searle.
