QPR FC WOMEN got their pre-season campaign underway with a 2-1 victory over Abingdon United on Sunday.
As Rangers prepare for a season which brings with it a lot of change, no fewer than seven trialists featured for the R’s, highlighting the transition period the club face going into the new campaign.
Despite the changes, it was a familiar face of Kasha Petit who carved out the first opportunity of the game but her cross failed to pick out anyone in a blue and white hooped shirt.
Defender Lily Last produced some fine last-ditch tackles to prevent the visitors from taking the lead – most noticeably when she tracked back to clear Kiera Isaac’s effort off the goal-line to keep the game scoreless.
Moments later Isaac eventually got the better of a stubborn R’s defence as her effort beat Lucie White in the Rangers goal and flew into the top corner, giving the away side the lead.
QPR instantly responded as Paige Vanden latched onto a through ball and lobbed the Abingdon keeper, leaving her helpless and drawing the R’s level.
In a game which was ultimately about fitness and preparing for the new season, Quashie’s side dominated the second half but simply lacked that cutting edge in front of goal.
Petit’s pace continued to cause damage throughout the half, before a good team move eventually found Annie-Dyzadyk, but before she could tap the ball home was ruled offside.
In the dying seconds of the game, one of the many trialists finished a superb passing move off, giving the R’s a deserved 2-1 victory and getting their pre-season campaign off to the perfect start.
The R’s continue their pre-season campaign against Crystal Palace on Sunday 21st July.
