David Marshall

Goalkeeper

About David

VASTLY-EXPERIENCED goalkeeper David Marshall first hit the headlines as a 19-year-old when, after just one first-team appearance for Celtic, he was brought on in a UEFA Cup tie against Barcelona – replacing the sent-off Rab Douglas and subsequently keeping a clean sheet.

Some 17 years on from that outstanding display against the Catalan giants, he moved to QPR in January 2022 with the hope of adding another Championship promotion to an already-decorated playing career.

The Glasgow-born shot-stopper is approaching 50 caps for Scotland at international level, featured at last summer’s European Championships and was their first-choice goalkeeper upon joining Derby County in August 2020 – for whom he has since made 33 appearances.

Previously, during the 2019/20 season, he played 40 times in all competitions and kept 15 clean sheets from 39 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship for Wigan Athletic, which included a run of 10 shutouts from 11 matches during the second half of the campaign.

Marshall began his professional career in his homeland with Celtic. In all, he made 50 first-team appearances and claimed four major honours – including the Scottish Premier League in 2003/04.

The 2006/07 season saw Marshall get his first taste of English football during a loan spell at Norwich City, before the move was made permanent in the summer of 2007.

After two seasons at Carrow Road, he moved to Cardiff City and went on to spend seven full seasons with the Bluebirds.

During that time, he made 281 appearances for the Welsh outfit and was a key member of their title-winning Championship side during the 2012/13 campaign, meaning he was able to play Premier League football for the first time in 2013/14.

Marshall’s next stop was Hull City in the summer of 2016 and he played 67 times for the Tigers across three seasons, including one campaign in the Premier League, prior to joining Wigan ahead of the ‘19/20 campaign.
