STOKE City’s American midfielder Geoff Cameron joins QPR on a season-long-loan.
The 33-year-old brings experience and versatility to Steve McClaren’s squad having played in England for the last six years.
Born in Attleborough Massachusetts, Cameron spent much of his youth career with the Rhode Island Stingrays.
He excelled at college level in American Soccer and that led to him being a draft pick for the MLS side Houston Dynamo’s in 2008.
Playing as an aggressive defender with great athleticism and power, Cameron was a finalist for the 2008 MLS Rookie Player of the Year. The following season he was named in the 2009 MLS All-Stars team that faced Everton and three years’ later was selected in the squad that faced Manchester United.
Cameron’s reputation was growing and it was no surprise that in 2012 a Premier League club offered him a chance in England. The American signed a long-term deal with Stoke City and be became their first ever transatlantic signing.
Playing in a number of positions under Tony Pullis, Cameron made 38 appearances for the Potters during a fine debut season.
The following year he was mainly deployed as an attacking right-back as former QPR manager Mark Hughes tried to get Stoke playing a more expansive style of football. He scored his first goal for the club in September 2013 during a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Cameron made 45 appearances in the 13/14 campaign. He was rewarded with a new contract and unsurprisingly called up for the American national team to compete in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he played three out of four games.
For the next two seasons, Cameron was a regular in the Stoke starting eleven as they secured back to back ninth-placed finishes in the top flight.
An injury meant he missed a lot of the 2016/17 campaign but he returned for the final few months of the season and did enough to earn a new three-year deal.
The Potters' 10-year stay in the top flight came to an end last year with Cameron featuring only 21 times as Stoke finished 19th and were relegated to the Championship.
Despite being fully fit Cameron has not played for Stoke this season and QPR have now landed the services of the 55 timed capped American international, who will spend the rest of this term on loan at Loftus Road.
